What is physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy helps people manage a wide range of medical problems or health related conditions that cause pain, restrict movement or affect function (and performance). Although most people only see a physiotherapist when they are in pain, or recovering from an injury or surgery, advanced physiotherapy techniques can also be used to prevent injury and improve body functional performance.
Physiotherapy typically uses manual therapy to deal with a specific symptoms combined with exercises and advice to promote recovery or prevent recurrence. Physiotherapy can also use electrical stimulation to address deep tissue problems or to stimulate activity in dormant muscles.
What can physiotherapy help with?
- Pain relief - neck, back and joint, including arthritis and posture
- Strains, sprains and sports related injuries
- Pre and post-op support
- Performance related conditions - including poor core strength and bio-mechanical inefficiencies
